So, where was I? Oh yes, well on Monday, April 12, we set out for Prague. We took the train from Berlin and let me say this was probably the some of the prettiest countryside we saw! It was a five hour train ride and was so different from what we had seen previously. Anyway, we arrived in Prague a little after 2pm and checked into yet another hostel. It was also a good one and in a really good location. So, for the first day we managed to walk around and see Wenceslas Square, Prague National Museum, Jindrisska Tower, Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, Astronomical Clock, Tyn Church, and another bell tower. We saw a lot just in the first day we were there, however it was quite rainy. We did manage to go to the castle at night on the first day and it was quite nice to be there all by ourselves and see the entire castle lit up. There a a huge cathedral inside of the castle grounds and was so beautiful at night. We also got some good pictures of the city from the castle being as though it sit on top of a hill. On Monday night we stopped and had a traditional Czech meal consisting of Beef Goulash with potato pancakes and dumplings. The food was excellent!! We also tried a type of Czech beer...Pilsner...which was also very good. Tuesday morning we got up and went back to the palace to visit it in the daylight while the exhibits and gallery was open. We explored the castle for most of the day including going inside the cathedral. We also went to St. Nicholas cathedral. The rest of the day was spent shopping and looking around in the Old Square. Prague was by far the most unique city we visited. The buildings were beautiful and quite colorful. Most of the cathedrals we visited and other buildings and monuments were in the Baroque style. The food was good...on the second day we had bratwurst from a stand and they were awesome! The people were friendly enough. They spoke Czech and obviously none of us did...so if they were rude we wouldn't have known anyway! The currency is not the Euro it is the Crown. As a result we had to change currency and the crown is not worth a whole lot. About 1000 crowns is about 50 euro. It's kinda neat though to have some as a souvenir considering they will probably eventually change to the euro. Prague was the most inexpensive place we visited. I'm not sure if it was because of the currency difference or not but it was so nice how cheap everything was! Unfortunately, I don't know a lot about the history of the Czech Republic or Prague and it would have been nice to know a little more about their culture, but the overall experience was great and I'm so glad that we visited it!
